Overhead door parts includes the torsion springs, extension springs, rollers, track, angles, hinges, bottom brackets, top brackets, lift handles, bottom seals, jamb brackets, cable drums, spring fittings, cables, locks, etc. Garage door parts can be bought on line. Though you can easily install them without needing a professional, but for safety reasons it is better that it is fitted by a professional. This also ensures that they are fitted correctly.

Brackets can be in different forms. There is a quick close fixture brackets that can reduce headroom requirements by 1-1/2” to 2-1/2”. Thus, allowing it to solve headroom problems when installing garage door openers. This is also the most common and the most cost effective way to solve low headroom problems for automatic garage door opener. They are used at initial installation and can be added to existing installations. There is also a low headroom bracket.

This is used exclusively for residential and extension spring doors with a height of 8’. This type of door won’t go higher than the top of the spring shaft when the door is opened. No modifications to the door or track are needed with this type of bracket. Similar to the close fixture brackets, this can also be used at initial installation and can also be added to existing installations.

The low headroom bracket is installed through the removal of the top fixture and attaching the low headroom bracket in its place. This is designed to operate an extension spring door in a minimum of 7” of headroom. But with this type of bracket, you will need to cut and remove portion of the vertical track before installation to achieve full headroom clearance.

Springs, one of the many overhead door parts used in garage doors are used to help raise and lower the door safely. There are two types of springs used in garage doors. There is the extension spring and the torsion spring. Extension springs are springs that are attached on either side of the door and stretch along the horizontal part of the track when the door is closed.

On the other hand, torsion springs are found at the top section of the door and are mounted to the header. This type of spring is a wound spring and do not expand or contract when the door is moved. But this is also a better spring as it offers more safety to the homeowner and better balance to the door. Overhead garage doors with single car door have extension springs as part of the standard hardware but the torsion spring is only available upon request. While garage doors with double car doors are made with torsion springs.

Another part of your garage doors is the hinges. This is an essential part of your garage door as they ensure that the door functions properly. A professional, to ensure that they are properly working and aren’t going to break anytime soon, should regularly check the springs and the hinges. I hope this post has helped explain overhead door parts a little better.

Some of us have custom overhead doors for our garage doors. This keeps everything more convenient than using side doors. To keep our overhead garage doors in good condition all the time, it is very important that we know how to properly take good care of them. Some homeowners have a few questions on overhead door maintenance.

Take a look at their questions and how we answered them. Hopefully, you can use these as pointers when maintaining your own garage.

Q. What kind of maintenance should you give your garage door?

Cleaning your door regularly will keep it in good condition for a longer period of time. Get the most from your garage doors by keeping it clean. Once you detect a problem, take time to address it immediately. Otherwise, you will have to deal with further damage which may require greater costs.

To keep your garage doors clean, use a soft car brush and a mild detergent. You can do this at least 4-7 times every year. If you can wash your garage doors every time you do make your car wash, the better. This will keep prevent the build up of corrosive elements.

If you have a wooden custom overhead garage door, it very important that you keep it clean as well. Maintain your wooden door based on its manufacturer’s recommendations. Most manufacturers suggest that you paint both the interior and the exterior of your door at least once a year. Note that painting only the exterior part of your garage door can cause warping due to infiltration of moisture.

Q. Do I need to lubricate my door’s torsion spring, chain and the garage door itself?

Yes, you may. The very most important thing that you can do is to lubricate all the moving parts. Apply lubricant to your hinges and rollers at least once every year. All pivot points such as the end hinges which hold the rollers on track should be properly lubricated. It is also very important that you apply oil to your garage door springs. Coat the springs at least once every season. Coat all the cables on the door sides and allow the oil to drip down. After you lubricate, take time to detect the door’s hardware parts. These parts tend to loosen in time. If you detect loose screws, make sure to tighten them at once so that parts won’t fall out of their proper places.

Maintaining your custom overhead doors is very easy. Keep the above tips in mind all the time and cherish the good condition of your garage doors for a longer period of time. Good custom overhead doors will take care of you if you take care of them.

An industrial overhead door should be considered as important as any other industrial equipment. They are constantly in use, opening and shutting several times in a single day and as such several aspects about them have to be carefully considered before buying them.

The quality of the door should be seriously evaluated before buying. The door should be durable to last for at least a good period of time. This depends on the quality of the hardware materials used. If the materials are not strong enough then a lot of cost has to be incurred in repairing it time and again.

Even if the cost of a industrial door is cheap and if the quality is not good then the maintenance costs occurred will be much more than the cost of a good quality industrial door, hence it is better to invest in a reasonably priced ,strong built door than a poor quality and low priced door.

First of all, depending on the application the door has to be chosen like trucking or transport business, manufacturing facilities, primary industries and so on. The sturdiness of the door has to be considered depending on the dimensions of the door, the material used and the number of times it will be opened or closed in a day. Then a door opener depending on the weight of the door should be decided. They are basically of two types- trolley and jack shift and finally either thermal or full vision window section glasses should be bought.

Overhead doors should be of compact size ensuring a better use of the inside space. They should be easy to open and operate. Heat insulation and sound proofing are added advantages. A torsion spring facilitates in the door opening so even the quality of the spring should be estimated before buying.

An anti-pinching guard helps protect us from any possible injuries from the door moving panel. Sometimes the spring or cables can loosen or break and as such a device to stop the door panel from closing if that happens is helpful. Infra red photocells should be installed on the runner which prevents the movement of the door panel if the beam is broken.

A safety rib at the bottom of the door panel stops the door movement if any obstacle is present. Seals should be fixed under the door corners to help in insulation. Handles, window sections, portholes, pvc air grilles and motor lock and release knobs are other safety features that are a must.

The number of operation cycles, the type of traffic that will pass through the door, door insulation and lighting, atmospheric conditions and safety measures are all the various factors that help in choosing a good industrial overhead door.

There is nothing that is more convenient than being able to drive straight into your garage without getting out and pulling up a heavy door, which is what a garage door opener can do for you. If it is pouring rain, or the snow is flying all around, it can be more than convenient; it can downright save a lot of mess to clean up. If you don’t have to get out in the snow or rain, you won’t have a mess to clean up on your foyer. Plus, you can close the door from inside, without even going near the door, so if you have groceries or other parcels, this can save you from getting them soaking wet as well. The premise is simple. You have a remote control in your vehicle that sends a wireless transmitter to a receiver, and the garage door starts to open.

The cost of automatic garage door openers has become more affordable. When they first were introduced, the cost was prohibitive for most people. Now, almost anyone can get one installed at an affordable cost. They have become more secure, and more efficient as the years have gone on as well. Currently there are four different types of garage door openers on the market: the screw drive, chain drive, belt drive and torsion bar drive.

The screw drive is a very reliable opener. They are low maintenance, and are a little quieter than a chain drive. Financially speaking, they are affordable. The screw drive works simply, with very few parts to the actual lifting mechanism. These systems do not use chains or belts. Instead they work by using a single long screw that pulls the door up. This direct drive system doesn’t use chains or belts so you don’t have to worry about them breaking.

Chain drive openers are generally the least expensive, and the noisiest. It is simple concept really, and was invented in 1926. How it works is a motor is attached to a sprocket. The sprocket turns, and moves a chain. The movement of the chain pulls the door open or closes it. This is the most common type of garage door opener both historically and today, however if you have living space above the garage, you may want to go with another alternative.

Belt drive openers are more costly than screw drive or chain drive systems. Belt drives are tough, reliable and very quiet. They are ideal if you have rooms above the garage. Like the chain drive, they utilize a very simple mechanism. The motor turns, the belt is moved, the garage door opens or closes. Instead of a noisy chain, they use a rubber belt, similar to steel belted tires. The rubber is reinforced with steel fibers, making it even more durable.

Torsion bar drives differ from the above three, as it is not trolley based system. It utilizes a shaft system. Basically, rather than having the equipment needed installed in the middle of your garage, it is installed on the wall above the garage door, and then uses the existing springs to open and close the door. It is the quietest of them all, and will allow you to keep the head clearance in your garage.

Overhead garage door openers are not only convenient, but safe as well. Instead of remote controls, you can also use a pin pad, or even more modern, a thumbprint to open the door. Some have sensors that will allow the door to open a few inches to let a pet out automatically. They all can be released from their automatic systems easily if there is an emergency or a power failure. All in all, a garage door opener is a wonderful addition to your house, and will make your life easier in the long run.

A garage door is the largest moving object in the home, and a garage door repair is usually a large job.. Often, they are operated by electric door openers. Proper installation, operation, maintenance and testing are a must to ensure your family’s safety. That is why once your overhead garage door becomes problematic, fix it at once or call a professional.

Now, how do we choose between fixing the Overhead door by ourselves or through a professional service? Either way, when it comes time for garage door repair, both have their own pros and cons and let’s tackle them.

When we fix the overhead garage door by ourselves we can always check the internet for tips. Some websites even offer a “repair kit and manual” which you can buy online. Another way would be to meticulously study on the internet what is wrong with your overhead door, the difficulties you are experiencing and maybe by the end of this you can pinpoint what particular parts you need. Or simply just go to a Do-it-yourself hardware and explain to a mechanic what the problem is and they will just give you right away the equipment and parts you need to repair the garage door yourself..

If we try to fix the overhead door by ourselves we have to ensure that we have the time to really complete the job. Though we may think that doing the job of garage door repair on our own would save us dollars, but the effort we pour into the job may really be sweaty. Some instances we have to go back and forth our house and the store just exchange parts that are not appropriate. But, overall the satisfaction of knowing that we have fixed it on our own is a reward in itself.

Calling the professional is a hassle free choice. The company’s technician will just come to visit you after you have notified them of your needs. First they would check what needs to be done, parts and equipments needed are usually prepared before hand and they will give you a rough estimate of your garage door repair.

With the professional’s help you are better assured of the quality of the job because they know what they are doing. Next concern is that it may be more expensive.

However, given all this options it is really up to the owner of the house to whom they would give the responsibility of repairing the door. We always have to bear in mind that a malfunctioning garage door could really lead to severe injury or death, which is why when it comes to your garage door repair, you will want to take it seriously.

Something that homeowners usually dont think about or do is service their garage door. If you own a home and have a garage on that home, you need to make sure that you are keeping up on your garage door service. Not only can broken springs on your garage door be a pain in the butt, but they can also pose a significant danger.

As before any home improvement that you do, you want to make safety a priority before you start to do garage door service. The first thing you will want to do is clear the area and make sure there is no one else around. You’ll also want to pay special attention to the door panels and the springs so you dont pinch your fingers. That will make for an aweful mess, trust me. What you’re really doing is just making sure that there isnt anything really messed up with the door. If you do find something serious, you’ll want to contact a professional garage door service company to repair it for you. If you try to fix it yourself, you could get seriously hurt.

So when checking the springs on your garage door, you’re looking for cracks and any other signs of possible aging. If your springs on your garage door are just squeaking, you can just spray on some wd40 and that should take take of that problem. If you do notice cracks on your garage door springs, then you will want to get your local garage door company on the phone to come and do your garage door service. The springs on a garage door are loaded with a lot of pressure and should not be attempted by someone without the proper tools and training.

After you have checked the springs, you will want to move onto the brackets that connect the springs to the cables. These brackets should be really tight on the garage door and if they arent, then you will need to tighten them up. And if you have a newer model of garage door, then chances are that they brackets are tamper resistant and cant be done by you. You will need to have them done by a garage door service company.

Of course you will want to check the cables too. What you will be looking for is if the cable is frayed or looks like it has seen enough use. If it looks like it is at all worn, you need to get it replaced. Waiting until the cable breaks will cost you a lot more in the long run, plus the possibility of serious harm if it were to break while someone is under the garage door when it is closing.

And if you got those cool laser detection safety sensors at the bottom of your garage door, you will want to check them and make sure they are clear of any and all debris. You should have two of them, each on one side of the garage door near the bottom. You want to make sure and test these regularly to ensure they do their job to protect anyone that might get trapped under the garage door.

The last thing on the garage door for you to service would be the weather strip that is attached to the bottom. This is a somewhat simple process and you are just looking for cracks or if it is starting to come off. If your weather strip on your garage door is in bad shape, you will want to repair it or replace it to ensure that your garage stays properly insulated and to keep out and insects.

Take the time to look over these factors on your garage door at least once a month, if not more. If you keep up on your garage door service, you will not only ensure the safety of others, but also the safety of your garage door. And remember, if you do find something that you are not comfortable with fixing yourself, do not put it off and avoid it. Call you local garage door service company and get them to fix it. It will probably be cheaper then you think and will pay for itself in the long run.
